Introduction

What is EI?

EI (Emotional Intelligence) is 'a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective way' - Stein and Howard. In other words, EI is anything that does not encompass personality or IQ - it can be described as the soft skills of life; in terms of knowing oneself, understanding the people around us, and how we all influence one another.

What is EQ?

EQ (Emotional Quotient) is the measurement of one's emotional intelligence, which can be determined through standardized assessments, such as the tool we use - MHS's EQi-2.0. Unlike IQ, EQ is not a trait which is set for the duration of one's life, and is instead an ability which can be improved through awareness, diligence and effort.

Why is EI/EQ Important?

Emotional Intelligence is crucial for you, for anybody, because every thought we have, decision we make, and action we take, is filtered through our emotional lens. And if we are intelligent about our emotions and understand how we react in response to triggers and stimuli, we can manage, control and express our emotions, as well as build mutually satisfying relationships.

Our vision is a world where people are aware of their emotions and have the tools they need to improve.

Do you know what triggers your emotions?

Do you know which emotions affect your performance?

Do you let emotions get in the way when making decisions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Contact us if you have any additional question!

Is EI important for leadership?

Absolutely! Emotional Intelligence is vital for effective leadership because every leader is responsible for two things, their people and the task. And EI is the foundation of people skills, for it provides the leader with an awareness of how to manage their wellbeing, how to work with others, how to make realistic and clear decisions, to name a small selection of the vast amount of competencies necessary for successful management. Without EI, a leader cannot excel.

What tools are you using?

We are using the EQi-2.0, which is a self-rating emotional intelligence inventory. The tool is the most widely used assessment in relation to EQ, is psychologically validated, test-retested, and has been used in practice for just under three decades. The tool measures five overarching composite scales; self-perception, self-expression, interpersonal relationships, decision making and stress management; all of which combine to provide the recipient with a deep sense of self understanding.

Can emotional intelligence be measured scientifically?

Emotions are mysterious entities that involve the body and the mind. However, scientists from many fields have been studying emotions for decades; including Psychology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Chemistry and Artificial Intelligence. As a result, many methods, models and techniques have been designed to measure, induce and manage emotions, such as the EQi-2.0, and these tools are improving every day.

Is emotional intelligence used in recruitment?

Personality, character and emotional intelligence are one of many criteria that recruiters now use to select the best talents to join an organisation. That is because emotionally intelligent people are easier to manage and work with or for and the purpose of any organisation is to hire the best and most accomplished individuals.

How does emotional intelligence develop and retain employees?

Developing greater emotional intelligence in one’s employees creates a culture where everyone can be authentic and open; capable of expressing their needs and asserting their opinions, as well as empathizing and relating to their colleagues. An EQ culture is tough to implement and sustain, but doable, and creates an atmosphere where the staff feel welcome and valued, which in turn encourages them to remain within the organization.
